Morning! Hey, have you seen my new babies? Look, aren’t they beautiful?Say hi to your new housemates.
I heard these words twice a week from my mom. I called her greeny or green finger. She is fond of collecting babies, no, not babies, I mean plants. Her home ops! Our home welcome plants as long as we have space. Plants from shops, plants cutting from roadsides, plants from the houses she visits. Twice a week she got the urge to buy more plants.
Whenever she saw a new variety, she got hooked. I have had to buy them. There are no words to describe her euphoria while buying new she also trades her old babies for new ones. Whenever , she feels depressed , she ties her laces and went straight to the nursery. After buying 2–3 new plants she came back with a beaming smile.
She started her collection in 2019 she has been collecting them for over 2 years. Now it’s impossible to stop buying, she goes on expanding her collection. There are so many plants she would like to buy and it never ends. She loves talking about them they are like gems for her.
Yesterday, while I was having dinner I heard her screaming .I ran towards her and noticed she was laughing, and I was like what?
She said,’’ Look my dear these tiny green gems finally sprouted from seeds my baby cactus” yahoo! I finally succeeded. she celebrated her success by treating us to fish. Most of her babies have untold stories. When someone comes to visit us she often gave them a 3-way tour of her plant collection.
She wants a jungle of her own. There would be a time when she would say, I have some plants at home while Her plants: we have one human at home. 2 years ago: ‘damn so many plants’ .Now she says: ‘I see open spots for more. Whenever someone asked about her from The Plant Shop Owner he says .”Yeah, she’s in here all the time.”
Now she is collecting succulents, we were so taken aback by how strange some of them were. we didn’t know plants could look like that.
When we ask What do you want for your birthday?”. She says, A few more plants would do. She kisses her plants with such excitement her expressions make our days. We have Desert Rose, Rain lily, Different species of Snake plants, euphorbia, aloe vera, haworthia many more .
I know by name these only.
