Outside the window, the snow was falling softly in the middle of the night drifting against window panes settling onto the ground. He was taking a short stroll down a memory lane with tears rushing upon his cheeks. His memories were getting murky with age. Death befalls us and leaves us in agony. No one can heal, yet still, we consort for life rather than death. The love of his life was dying in front of him and he was not ready to say goodbye.
‘Daren’ her feeble voice jolted him, startling him out of a half-sleep dream.
For a moment he paused. took a deep breath and looked back at her. She was thin, forgetful, crabbed with age.
She didn’t want to stay in the hospital , so he took her home. He could not watch her suffer. He wanted her to die peacefully. So he was throwing her a bizarre party which he named “The death party”.
As he turned from the window he noticed she was keeling over. His heart started beating loudly as he tried to hold her. Sadly, the frigid hand of death had reached her. He turned up the volume of music and cried silently.
……..
In the morning he called the police.
When the Sergeants arrived they noticed the words “Death Parade God Hell” in red spray paint on the door. An old man opened the door and told them about his wife’s death. They looked over his house and found his wife’s body swaddled in a sheet at the top of the stairs.
The body was still warm, but rigor mortis had begun to set in. They searched the house and took him for investigation.
The autopsy report revealed that she died not of natural cause, but a methamphetamine overdose.
They investigated him. He claimed that he could not put up with her suffering and she had complied with a meth-fueled death party. So he wrote “Death Parade God Hell” in the front door with red spray paint, racked up her favorite food and drinks, and turned on Quiet Riot’s 1983 album “Metal Health.”
When they asked why he didn’t call 911 when she was dying he claimed he wanted to respect her wish as she had disabled the telephone.
Upon checking the house they found that the telephone set was working fine.
He insisted that she wanted to die this way .
A few months later, he pled guilty to criminal neglect
and wound up with third-degree murder of his wife.
He remembered her death and sadness overcame him.
……..
It is grueling to see our loved ones dying. Death is a seeker. It will find us even if we are not ready to say goodbye, as every soul will taste death. But we are unwilling to accept this reality. Instead of embracing it some of us just lost our minds trying to take things into our own hands.
Such belief that what is happening is not supposed to happen makes things worse.
…………..
Did she want to do it? who knows.
