I am trying to understand how and when things went wrong how we humans become cruel.

Though we have a lot going on. We bring this to ourselves we tampered until we destroyed it.

When they are gone
When every last life has been stolen
How will you remember them?
As you know extinction is forever (Claire Deaton)

Going, going near to gone the last two Nothern White Rhinos.
The rhinos have been happily thriving for millions of years but we decided to put them to an end. Don’t know why we think we have much greater right to be here than others. We poached, hunt then sold their horns just for money till they were declared practically extinct.
How could we look at those bloody tears, and gaping holes where their beautiful horns used to be, what our species have done?
We destroyed their habitats. Didn’t realize we have broken a life chain that evolved billions of years ago.

Still can’t believe there are only two left and unfortunately, the last two left are female Fatu and Najin.
Worse luck the last male rhino 45 years Sudan died because of health issues on March 19, 2018, so this species became functionally extinct.
Despite people being so selfish, others are being so selfless and doing their best to prevent an already bad situation from getting worse.
Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt from the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) in Berlin and his team are trying to save these extinct rhinos through biosecure artificial reproduction. The carefully preserved semens were used but insemination failed as Fatu have defective uterine lining and Najin have weak hind legs, so neither can carry a pregnancy.
But this did not deter scientists . They are holding on to this last glimmer of hope. They are extracting their immature eggs and creating viable embryos in the laboratory. Now they have gathered 5 live embryos stored in liquid nitrogen . Thinking of using southern white rhinos as surrogate mothers. The team is hoping for the first northern white calf at the end of 2021.
They are trying to collect and preserve more eggs this is facing a race against time as Najin has a tumor.
I find this sad when people blame the animal for not being adapted enough and that its extinction is natural when it’s obvious that humans contribute to a lot of extinctions.
I hope we won’t be able to say that.
Back in our days, there were these animals called rhinos.”
Let’s pray Najin doesn’t die and recover from the tumor.
Just take a moment and thanks to these wonderful Doctors, Scientists, Caregivers, and Soldiers who are guarding and assisting in protecting and bringing these beautiful animals from the brink of extinction.
Try your best to protect Mother Earth in every way possible.
